Part-time manager?
Yes, the Plainfield (IL) Public Library is looking for a Manager of Adult Services to work only on a part-time basis. This person can have either an MLS or have an LTA and be experience. From the job description, it sounds like regular reference librarian duties, not managerial level. Did they just misclassify the position? I hope so.

Back from the ether
I managed to get the project that I was working on turned in on time. My brain was mush after that. I'm now starting to gather together which states require public librarians to be certified and/or licensed. If your state has such a requirement, please e-mail me, especially if you know if and where the requirements for certification/licensing are available online. Visit the contact page to do so.
In other news, I'm now one of the "Blog People." I have been assimilated ;) Check out this well-reasoned opinion from that paragon of library-world publishing, the President-elect of ALA, Michael Gorman. I actually agreed with him for the most part about the Google digitization project, even if I didn't mention it here. And people wonder why us young kids are cynical about ALA meeting our needs. With leaders like Gorman...

Odds and ends...
First, I'm going to be offline for a little bit as I'm working on a project that I hope to have done by the beginning of next week.
Second, you've seen me post about the Illinois Synergy program sponsored by the Illinois State Library and the Illinois Library Association. Participants for the 2005 session have been selected and congrats to all of them. From what I've seen, I know three, possibly four, of them and I wish them the best of luck!
Third, after I finish the current project, I'm going to be working on a list of which states require licensing or certification of public librarians as I got quite a few people hitting the weblog when I posted the link to Michigan's certification requirements. So, if your state requires licensing or certification, please let me know. If you know where the requirements are located online, please send that information along too.
